Christmas, to me, has always been a holiday of sharing and spending time with your loved ones. It went from being a holiday I was excited for because of gifts, to a holiday I was excited for just because it’s the time of the year where my entire family will gather on the eve of Christmas — It definitely comes with age. Now, I get excited to spend hours before midnight with my family, where we’re all dressed up, we’ll fill our bellies with scrumptious food and then sit around talking, laughing, playing games. The gifts were always just a bonus. I actually wouldn’t mind at all if gifts were no longer a part of this holiday, but tradition is tradition and you can’t just break away from that — my mom would probably be the first person to be horrified at the thought of doing a “no gifts Christmas” celebration.
This year, I’m going to be missing out on Christmas Eve festivities with my family. I’m a little bummed about that, to be honest with you. Not only am I missing my family, but I miss coming home for the holidays and seeing all our stockings hung on the steps of the stairs (because this was the only place to fit stockings for all 8 kids + the dog). As Christmas grows nearer, the stockings get fatter with simple gifts from our parents. Going through my stocking is my favorite, even more than opening gifts!
For fun, I decided to make a list of things I wouldn’t mind finding in my stocking this year — because I’m miles away from home and I miss everything about the holiday season + family:
My mom recently got a job that involves skin care & beauty products. She’s been working around a lot of makeup lately, and I’ve tested out some products for her. As a huge makeup lover, I wouldn’t be surprised if makeup ended up in my stocking this year! I wouldn’t mind either. MY FACE IS A BLANK CANVAS AND MAKEUP IS THE PAINT.
I’m all about food. Stuff my stockings with treats and I’ll be a happy girl. Chips, chocolates, candies, anything. Pepero released Christmas themed sleeves for their boxes this holiday season and I’m really loving how festive they look. Perfect as a stocking stuffer or just something you can give to someone you love this Christmas! You can even write a message at the back!
A 2016 planner
Currently I’ve got my eyes set on the new Sunnies agenda and UNDO Clothing’s marble planner. So beautiful.
Photos for my wall
In this digital age, majority of our snapped memories are stored in electronic devices rather than as a piece of item we can hold and see on a daily basis… I would love to have most of my Eurotrip photos with Gab printed out in nice quality paper so I can make a collage out of it on my wall.
A new old book where I can do blackout poetry
It’s been a quite a long time since I last attemped to do blackout poetry. It was such a nice way to exercise my creativity while relaxing at the same time. I’ve tried looking for old books to use but I end up getting too choosy. I have to remember that the book doesn’t matter and that it’s part of the challenge to find words to create poetry out of.
So, I’m curious… Do you guys do stockings too? What do you want in your stockings this year? :-)
Christmas is just a few days away and I cannot believe how quick everything is going. I hope everyone is having an awesome holiday this year! <3
