I’m the type of girl who will always need her comfy everyday type of slip-on shoes. Two years ago, they were in the form of espadrilles, another year it was my over worn and battered white plimsolls. The past year until present, I’ve been expanding my choices of footwear and no longer only perpetually wear one type of shoes for everyday/weekend activities. Welcome to the everyday shoe family, TOMS! I’m so glad to have you and your colorful self here with me.
The Haiyan Initiative:
It’s been a little more than a year since Typhoon Haiyan hit our beloved country, destroying thousands upon thousands of people’s homes and lives… It’s been more than a year and yet there is still a lot of work to be done in rehabilitating and rebuilding the lives of its victims, many are still without proper homes and jobs.
On Typhoon Haiyan’s anniversary TOMS Philippines and AmeriCARES, an emergency response and humanitarian aid organization, teamed up to make the TOMS Haiyan Initiative Collection happen. They commissioned artists from the affected areas to create limited-edition designs for their shoes and sunglasses line.
One of these artists is a guy that goes by the name Boy O, a 22 year old artist hailing from Calicoan Island, Guiuan Eastern Samar — which was where Haiyan made its first landfall, ravaging the small town. Boy O’s life, just like everyone elses, was put to a halt, and he found solace in his art. The shoes above and below are designs by Boy O himself. I personally really love the design up above! Unfortunately they ran out of my size :( I’m guessing it’s the popular choice!
All proceeds from the sales of this cause will go towards the relief and rehabilitation efforts of AmeriCARES in devastated regions. I invite you to join and support this cause, and support artists like Boy O. Great job, TOMS Philippines on another project that aims to help others!
