Sephora PH Haul + Product Reviews

Sephora PH Review - Camie Juan Cover - 2

After months of what seemed like a hiatus on my love for makeup, it has been reignited once again all thanks to a wonderful store called Sephora. After years and years of endless rumours about Sephora finally making its way to the Philippines, it finally came true early this year in the form of Sephora.ph.

They reached out to me asking if I was interested in working with them for a blogpost review. Excitedly I said yes. I mean, you know me, I love makeup. After a few nights of browsing Sephora.ph, going through brands, checking online reviews… I finally settled on products I wanted to try out. I also took the liberty of ordering products myself (ie. using my own money and my own account) just to experience Sephora.ph without the aspect of working with the brand directly.

Sephora PH Review - Camie Juan (1 of 44)

Some experiences off the bat:

The Good:

  1. When Sephora first arrived, the site had very few selections… In June, I thought the selections were pretty good. I’m still hoping to see some Urban Decay and Kat Von D on it soon, though.
  2. Delivery is fast, around 3-5 days considering it’s coming from their warehouse in Singapore (or Hong Kong, either way it’s coming from abroad)
  3. Customer service is pretty great.
  4. Sephora Collection selection is A++ and they have great items for affordable prices.

The Bad:

  1. I placed an order for the BECCA liquid highlighter, I even paid for it and everything only to get an email from customer service the next day that the item was actually out of stock and they made a technical error. Imagine my disappointment.
  2. Many of the best items are out of stock. I believe this is because since Sephora opened to the PH market, we’re competing for stock with HK/SG markets too. I could be wrong, though. But one time, while I was purchasing my items, I somehow ended up on Sephora SG, when I was originally on Sephora PH, this leads me to believe that we just share the same website/stock as the two other countries.
  3. A small, albeit annoying, mishap with the shipping — not entirely Sephora’s fault but the shipping company that handles the orders locally. I got an email saying my package would be delivered on a Thursday, so I made sure to stay home all day and wait for it. It never did arrive, and I got an email around 10:00 PM saying my package had failed to be delivered on account of me not being available/home. I found this weird and frustrating because I deliberately stayed home to accept the package. The next day I made a call to their customer service and they had told me that the delivery guy probably never made it to my place due to traffic. I thought that would be the reason, but I found it incredibly annoying that the company would state failure of delivery being my fault, when it wasn’t. Why not just be honest and say traffic was terrible? Or the delivery guy simply couldn’t make it? Don’t put the blame on the customer.

That being said and put aside, the challenge Sephora gave me was to create a makeup look inspired by a travel destination. Without a second thought, I chose the south of France like Marseille or Provence. I imagined myself on a trip with Gab, and how I’d do my makeup for a romantic dinner date. We’d be in a beautiful classic French restaurant sitting outside on the patio, because it’d be a beautiful night & all the stars would be out, there’d be a jazz band playing, twinkling lights, and some champagne, the smell of sea salt in the air. Gab will ask me to dance, and we’ll fall in love all over again. :’)

Sephora Haul with Labels copy

My complete Sephora haul + new products used in my look:
BECCA | Too Faced | Sephora Collection | Sachajuan | Benefit

Before I get to the reviews of the products I got, I’d like to note that I’m dry/combination skin but bordering on mostly dry. I, unfortunately, wouldn’t know how these products fare on oily skin. But I’m sure there are tons of others blog reviews for that :)

BECCA Aqualuminous Foundation in Light

Pros:

  1. Light to medium coverage, build-able to full/heavy.
  2. Goes on like second skin, it blends so well.
  3. I’m in love with this product and don’t think I can really go back to using other brands right now.
  4. Enough to lighten my undereyes without concealer, great for light makeup days

Cons:

  1. Packaging is a bit of a hassle with having to use the dropper.

Sephora PH Review - Camie Juan (5 of 44)BECCA Ombre Rouge Eye Palette

Pros:

  1. Flattering shades for all skin types
  2. Pigmented, so you don’t need a lot of product
  3. Blends great
  4. The darker shades are no muddy and doesn’t make you look like you got a black eye
  5. A bit of shimmer, but just enough.

Cons:

  1. None I can think of right now!

Sephora PH Review - Camie Juan (2 of 44)

Too Faced Lip Insurance Primer

Pros:

  1. Fills in my fine lines on the lips

Cons:

  1. I’m not entirely sure if it keeps my NYX creamy matte lipsticks longer, it seems to do the opposite and my NYX creamy matte lipsticks might be better solo. I’ll keep trying with other products.

Sephora PH Review - Camie Juan (25 of 44)BECCA Resurfacing Primer

Pros:

  1. Works as a great primer
  2. Keeps makeup in place all day long
  3. Helps avoid creasing in my undereye area (problematic area for me)

Cons:

  1. It smells a bit weird, almost like glue.

Sephora PH Review - Camie Juan (24 of 44)

Sephora Foundation Brush + Contour Brush

Pros:

  1. High quality
  2. Blends product well
  3. The contour brush is perfect for those who have trouble contouring, the job is made easier by 90%

Cons:

  1. I find the brushes too big/heavy to hold

Benefit Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil

(got this as a free sample, but I’ll review anyway)

Pros:

  1. Color is great to match eyebrows
  2. Product swipes easily

Cons:

  1. “Melts” and sometimes makes application harder
  2. Broke in half after a few days so to twist it back down doesn’t work, I have to push it back in
  3. Price is not worth the product for its mediocrity

And there you have it! I think this look is pretty versatile, and definitely wearable despite it being a “full face” makeup look. I never got to shoot it on video, because I didn’t think I’d be able to even edit it in time to match the blog post but if I get enough requests then it’s something I can definitely do for you! Or if you’d like a haul video, where I talk more about the products and really explain what I like about them — let me know too! I’m good with either and if you badly want it, I’ll take time off my busy schedule to make it happen ;-)

My final thoughts about this entire experience: BECCA products are actually worth the hype I’ve seen on social media/beauty vloggers channels. It’s quite pricey, but if you’re a makeup lover like I am, then some of their products are worth investing in. Honestly, ever since I got these products, my makeup game has been ON POINT. It’s so on point that Gab has even complimented the way my makeup has looked the past few weeks. I do believe that quality makeup also plays a role on how your makeup will look so it’s worth investing in some times!

Thanks Kristine! Does this look like a no makeup look? I’m surprised!! It was actually pretty heavy, but I think what made it heavy was the fake lashes… I’m glad it looks super simple though! <3

I recently bought something from Sephora, and got samples of the Benefit GoofProof Brow Definer and Becca Resurfacing Primer. I look forward to trying them out to work tomorrow. :D

    • Reply Camie Juan 26 July 2016 at 8:20 pm

Hows the Goof Proof Brow Definer? I liked mine until it broke in half. :|

      • Reply Jae 26 July 2016 at 10:00 pm

I got like a mini sample of the benefit GoofProof Brow Definer, and having used mostly Anastasia Beverly Hills brow products, I think theirs has good color payoff. Is it going to replace my cult favorite? I’m not sure… Unless I get a full size one, that’s the only way I can tell. :/

So beautiful! I was excited about the sephora.ph launch as well but never got the chance to check it out. I hope they have a local warehouse cos shipping from HK/SG in 3-5 days be can be very costly. Love your look!

    • Reply Camie Juan 26 July 2016 at 8:19 pm

Well, shipping is actually included so you don’t pay for shipping anymore! I doubt they’ll open a local warehouse, there would be no point. I think it’s the same for other regions :)

That font looks so pretty!!! And girl, ang ganda mo! Super artistahin ang face. <3 I feel like Becca products are really great for people with dry skin! :) Try their Champagne Pop highlight next time! They came out with a huge Champagne Pop Collection by Jaclyn Hill!

    • Reply Camie Juan 26 July 2016 at 8:16 pm

Thanks Corinth! Pero grabe sa mahal ang BECCA cosmetics. At this rate, since I’m mostly saving up for travel + NYC, I think I’ll stop splurging muna on expensive makeup products… EVEN THOUGH I REALLY WANT THEIR HIGHLIGHTERS. Haha I’ll makedo with my Benefit Watts Up one muna until maubos. Haha

  • Reply Steff 19 July 2016 at 1:59 am

Wow! I admire you for choosing to pay with your own money despite being a sponsored post. Anyways, does sephora.ph have CoD basis? last time I check they don’t do it yet. I think it would really be a big help on their part for having CoD payments that way delivery guys would ACTUALLY come to your door step they even call you if they almost got to your place already.
