One of the most important things we learn in life is the importance of personal hygiene. Growing up in a tropical country, showers were limited to at last twice a day — sometimes thrice in the summer time with the blistering heat of the sun at almost 40 degrees Celsius! But taking showers or baths isn’t all about cooling down and washing away the dirty and sweat accumulated throughout the day, it’s a matter of personal health as well. Showering regularly prevents illnesses, and if you’re clean and look good, you feel good, too. In most cultures, poor personal hygiene is considered offensive. Good hygiene and caring for your body regularly will improve your physical appearance, and subsequently will improve others perception of you, and is also helpful in improving your own self-image.
Watsons Philippines has launched the Bath To Basics campaign – why Bath To Basics? It’s a play on words; Watsons basically aims to educate people about the importance of maintaining their bathing habits to achieve better health and skin using the basic products we should have in our bathrooms. It’s also a chance for people to learn about the different body care products that can complete ones bath regimen – from the typical bar of soap to body wash, body scrubs, bath salts, and more. Watsons believe that an indulging bathroom ritual every morning goes a long way. We need to make it a habit to pamper our body and make our bathroom a sanctuary — because this is a space that is personal, private and where all worries are checked at the door.
A few weeks ago I, along with a few other beauty/lifestyle bloggers, was invited to attend the launching of Watson’s Bath To Basics event at Ki Neo Spa at BGC. We were greeted with some hors d’oeuvres, free flowing tea, and a quick talk by Olen Lim about the importance of a bath regimen.
The key points I remember most from the talk which I believe would be very useful to you:
- Keep your bathroom space organized based on which products you use by order, this way your regimen can be done completely so you don’t forget any crucial step
- Always wash your face at the end of the day – get rid of any traces of makeup with makeup remover, use toner and moisturize.
- Toner can also be used to clean your underarms of bacteria
- Always bathe in warm water, never hot. Hot water causes skin dryness.
- Cold water for showers is ideal because it gets your blood flowing and closes pores
- Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Make moisturizer your best friend, because it is the only product that can help your skin stay young and look young as we age.

We were asked to choose between Watson’s body scrub products, I chose the Watsons Milk & Salt Scrub Carrot Extract (reveals your skin’s natural radiance)

The body scrub begins from your legs, going up to your back, and then they do the front of your legs, your arms, neck and shoulders. At first the salt scrub hurts your skin because it’s rough and being rubbed in. Make sure that you make it a point to tell the masseuse the truth if you want less pressure or more when she asks. Overall, the experience was quite nice. It lasted about an hour, and afterwards there is a shower in the room where you can wash off and clean up. My skin felt nice and smooth for days afterward, but I made it to a point to not use my loofah in the shower for a whole week, just to let my skin heal a bit after that scrub. Over scrubbing in general is bad for the skin, so an hour of the body scrub is enough for a week and a half or so.
After the body scrub, our next order of business was doing a shopping challenge worth P1000. The objective was to buy as much Watsons Bath To Basics products as we can, and whoever wins the challenge will win a gift certificate to Ki Neo Spa. Honestly, I was just interested in shopping for Bath To Basics products because my bathroom basically consisted of just the essential shampoo, conditioner and body soap! I wanted the whole nine yards, and tried to complete my bath regimen products from bath soap, to bath gels, to hand soap, to big bottles of conditioner, mild body scrubs, etc! I was able to bag 9 products in total, so I’m not entirely sure if I would even win – but I was able to take home Bath To Basics products, so really, who’s the real winner here? Haha
