Wink* Laser Studio is all about your skin, skin, skin — keeping it smooth and clean! Waxing, laser treatments and spot treatments all in one place with a welcoming vibe, neat-freak nurse therapists and their careful care for your skin makes Wink your best bet for anything and everything skin related!
I was invited by Wink to try out their Underarm Laser Treatment, and although I already had another place where I was getting IPL done, I wasn’t entirely satisfied with their services — but we’ll get to that later. I went to their newest branch in Alabang Town Center, the studio is located at the Commerce Mall area (you know, the fancy area of Town, where Lush and Beauty Bar is located — if you’re coming from Fully Booked side, it’s on the right side end, same area as Alterations Express and 158 Designers Blvd. I’m letting you know now cause I ended up getting confused and lost — but Im generally bad at directions, so.)
The staff was very nice and accommodating, I instantly felt welcomed. (If you’re thinking, “That’s because they know you’re a blogger — they actually did not know this upon my arrival, only after I registered with them, so they weren’t putting up appearances or anything like that)
The rooms are spacious and very clean. I felt like I was going to contaminate the place haha but despite all that, I actually really found it very comfortable.
My laser therapist, Janna, sat me down for a 10 minute talk about the entire procedure. This is the part that got me going, “Oh wow! They’re really professional here. I like this. I like this a lot.” I suddenly felt so safe and all my anxiousness towards the treatment slowly melted away as time went by and she briefed me about the entire thing. She asked me routine questions about health, medications, talked to me about the do’s and don’ts during the laser sessions, she explained to me what happens during the treatment, and so much more! She also gave me a pamphlet of all the information we just covered, so I could study it and understand the treatments further.
Janna also explained to me that after the laser treatments, the hair will still grow, but this won’t actually really be hair growing but rather dead hair being pushed out of the body. True enough, just last week, all that hair eventually fell off and stopped growing. I’ve been hair free on my underarms for about a week and a half now, the hair will start growing again next week and that will be the time I have to go back for my next laser treatment. You’re not allowed to wax or tweeze your underarm hair, because when you undergo the treatments, the laser is targeting the roots — so if you pull the hair out, there wont be any root to target — so this is a huge no no.
Below are the general information you need to know about the Wink Laser Treatments:
We then started with the procedure, she had me lie down and placed goggles on me, to protect my eyes. Normally, you’d place your hands behind your head so the therapist cant shave your underarms before the session. I shaved at home before the procedure, upon seeing my shaved underarms, Janna laughs and says “Oh, thank you! You’ve made my job easier!” Haha. I highly suggest you shave your hair yourself, I find it would be the polite thing to do!
A cold gel is applied to your skin to help alleviate any small amount of pain you might feel. Don’t get me wrong, laser treatments hardly hurt! I have high pain tolerance, and so Janna decided to go up a notch to level 2 strength, from the usual level 1. I felt moderate pain, very tolerable, like being pinched once in a while — nothing traumatizing. I asked her if level 2 for some people caused them pain, and she said majority can only handle until level 1. So if your pain tolerance isn’t that high, stick to level 1!
The procedure would last at least 10 minutes, give or take. Not very long. Just make sure when you schedule your session, you’ll just be at home relaxing for an entire day.
At the end of the procedure, Janna applied anti-inflammatory cream to my underarms. You’re not allowed to wash your armpits for at least 24 hours after the treatment, and I stupidly made plans to go out with friends that night. Haha
In conclusion, I really really ended up liking Wink! Not only were they professional, but they really value your safety — which is why they keep the place spectacularly clean, thoroughly brief you about your procedures, and even follow-up and remind you about what NOT to do after the treatment! (Janna texted me a few days later to remind me not to tweeze/wax my underarm hair, stressing that the hair growth at the 4-6th week is what we will be targeting next)
I’ve decided to NEVER return to that other spa place for any hair removal session, or any treatment for that matter. I won’t mention who they are, but I got a deal from Groupon for the sessions, and I guess it’s my fault for even bothering. They were very bahala na (whatever) with everything. When I had my first session with this Spa-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named establishment, they asked me if it was my first time to undergo treatments and when I said yes, they just said ok and made me lie down on the table to do the laser, 3 minutes later, I’m done and out of there. No briefing, no other explanations on what to do or not do, no follow ups or reminders — basically the complete opposite of the way Wink runs their business. I guess you get what you pay for, huh?
Well, with Wink, I realized that the laser treatments would cost me P2,500 per session, and I’d be doing it every 6 weeks (They have packages available too) Not bad at all, considering the very maalaga (caring) service they provide! I’ve only undergone 1 session with them and although that isn’t enough to rave about the treatment itself, I’ll have to go back and get more sessions done and report back to you guys how that goes. But the point of this blog post is to share with you and tell you how much I’ve come to love Wink :)
Before I left the studio, they took a photo of me for their photo wall. I wish I had some makeup on that day, but maybe I could ask for another photo when I go back for my next session! :P
